Salam chairs ministerial meeting on refugee crisis

November 26, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Prime Minister, Tammam Salam, on Thursday chaired at the Grand Serail a meeting for the ministerial committee tasked with following up on the affairs of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

“The committee confirmed that the displacement of Syrians was provisional, and that the dauntless work always focuses on clinching the idea that Syria cannot discard its sons and that the neighboring countries cannot be a permanent asylum for them,” said Minister of Social Affairs, Rashid Derbas, who attended the meeting alongside Ministers of Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Interior.

“We also discussed the international approaches towards the displacement of Syrians as well as the necessity to change the adopted means of relief in order to consolidate the hosting communities and improve the conditions of Syrian refugees,” he added.

“We assured that the international support for Lebanon must be more generous because we still didn’t reach half of what was decided during Kuwait meetings,” he continued.

“The committee has a tendency to produce a new developed line to manage the crisis so as to augment the sums earmarked for Lebanon,” he concluded.

Separately, Salam met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense, Samir Moqbel, over the current situation and latest developments on the domestic scene.
