Rai: Middle East countries require reforms

November 27, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Rai stressed that “Middle East countries need like all other countries internal reforms but these reforms should not be achieved through war or supporting fundamentalisms”.

He confirmed that the Lebanese sole project would be to preserve their dignity and to live under a democratic system that would separate between state and religion, respect all religions and denominations, human rights and provide public freedom.

Rai’s remarks came during his visit to the city of Cologne in Germany, where he met with the Archbishop Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki.

“We discussed the situation in the Middle East, particularly the Syrian refugees issue and ways to assist them,” Woelki said.

Woelki wished a swift solution to the Syrian crisis.
