Pharaon: Quarantina area faces environmental disaster

November 20, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon said Friday that Quarantina region is facing a major disaster that we ought to address immediately.

“Garbage is spread in the entire area, and that is catastrophic,” he said.

“There is no doubt that the issue of waste affects the entire country, mainly Beirut, where 300 tons of garbage is being commercialized. We do not blame Sukleen for it fulfilled its duties, but it faced major blackmail at up to 20 to 30 dollars for the ton every day,” Pharaon corroborated.

“The solution was clear since the beginning, and if leaders had agreed to start the exportation of waste in July, we could have avoided the transformation of Quarantina region into an environmental disaster,” he concluded.
