Opening of 43rd Arab News Agencies conference in Kuwait

November 24, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) The 43rd conference of the General Assembly of the Federation of Arab news agencies opened its works on Tuesday in Kuwait under the auspices of Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, represented by the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, in addition to directors of Arab agencies, and National News Agency Director, Mrs Laure Sleiman, representing Lebanon.

Sheikh Mohammad Abdallah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said that the news agencies were the main pillar of all traditional and modern media.

“It also represents the first source of news and information which stress the inevitable adoption of an informational balanced, transparent, and neutral message in light of the development and media openness the world is currently witnessing,” he added.

He emphasized on the importance of supporting media development efforts and encouraging Arab citizens to provide a decent life for the Arab peoples and face the deliberate media campaigns that tarnished the image of Islam, Arabs, and Muslims.

He also underscored the need to counter terrorism, which now extended around the world and in the Middle East, and to face extremist thoughts.

Saudi Arabia then handed over the presidency of the Federation to the State of Kuwait.

On the other hand, a number of issues on the media scene will be discussed during today’s meeting in addition to the participation of the Federation in the meetings of Arab information ministers.
