Vatsal, seeded No 1 defeated No 2 seed Praneeth Raj 6-4 in the final to take the title.

Vatsal had advanced to the final with an easy 6-0 victory over Mikhail Sarit in their semifinal match, while Praneeth had beaten J Kaavya 6-2 in the other last-four contest.

Hassan triumphs

Hassan Haider capped his fine run in the U14 singles competition on Sunday, collecting the crown. In the final, Hassan, the No 2 seed, put in an allround game and fought hard to script a well-contested 6-4, 6-4 victory over Avigyan Bhattacharya.

The No 3 seeds in the men’s doubles event, R Murali and Suhail Khan, advanced to the final after rallying to upset the second-seeded team of Mohan Kannan and K K Girish in their last-four match that lasted close to three hours before winning 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.

In the final, they will take on the teenagers Subash Pillai and Armaan Sattikar, who defeated fourth seeds Percy Pereira and Yash Tanna 6-4, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

Easy win for MCCC in U19 league match

Muscat Cricket Coaching Centre (MCCC) secured a comfortable six-wicket victory against Indian School Muscat (ISM) in an Oman Cricket U19 match played at Amerat recently.

Brief scores: ISM 211 in 32.1 overs (Wasim Ali 31; Mohammed Mohsin 3-29, Indunil Udara 3-35) lost to MCCC 212-4 in 36.2 overs (Mohammed Sohail 75 n.o, Azeem Majeed 55).

Other results: Pakistan School Muscat 204 in 36.3 overs (Ifthikar Ahmed 50; Jahidul 3-53) lost to Bangladesh School Muscat (BSM) 205-4 in 27.3 overs (Asif 72).

OC announces women’s squad

Oman Cricket (OC) recently announced the squad that will participate in the second edition of the GCC Women’s Twenty20 Cricket Championship to be played in Doha, Qatar from November 28-December 5.
