LANDMARK GROUP INITIATES BLOOD SUGAR TEST CAMPS ACROSS OMAN
MUSCAT: Landmark Group, the region’s leading retail and hospitality conglomerate, through its ‘Beat Diabetes’ campaign and as part of its outreach programme continues to raise awareness on the condition of diabetes in the region.
The Beat Diabetes campaign which was launched in 2010, is supported by the Ministry of Health and the Oman Diabetic Association, incorporates a number of free blood sugar testing camps hosted by Landmark Group across the sultanate.
The Group along with its support partners, Al Raffa Hospital, Johnson and Johnson (Muscat Pharmacy) will move to various key locations and companies across Muscat, Sohar and Salalah.
Diabetes is a condition which affects more than 14.49 per cent of the adult population in Oman (as per 2014 IDF figures). The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that diabetes will be the seventh leading cause of death in 2030. Landmark Group, through this CSR programme, is working with Ministry of Health to bring out greater awareness on diabetes in the sultanate.
Dr Sulaiman al Shereiqi, a senior specialist in public health from the National Diabetes and Endocrine Centre, Ministry of Health said, “Commemorating the World Diabetes Day on November 14 every year and having activities all year round that target raising public awareness are essential tools towards prevention and control of diabetes. With effective participation, the individuals are empowered to make informed decisions about living healthy, eating healthy and adopting healthy lifestyles.”
