Chehayeb: Trash deportation worst acceptable solution

November 18, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Environment Minister Akram Chehayeb said that “amidst the rejection to a scientific solution to the trash crisis, an exceptional solution has been adopted in terms of deporting the trash to foreign countries, a solution that is the worst among other acceptable ones.”

Chehayeb’s stance came Wednesday in the context of a conference highlighting the role of municipalities in managing solid wastes, at Crown Plaza Hotel in Beirut. The conference was organized by the Association of Graduates from the Progressive Socialist Party and Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

Chehayeb wrapped up on saying that “the alternative to landfills in the transitional stage of the trash plan is the deportation,” urging that said stage “must not exceed the 18-month period as a maximum range.”
