Bassil informed of Finland support for Lebanon

November 17, 2015 (REFERRING TO THE NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY – LEBANON) Finnish Foreign Minister, Timo Soini, on Tuesday confirmed his country’s support for Lebanon in different fields, including the participation in the UNIFIL contribution to helping Syrian refugees.

Soini’s stance came in a written letter delivered to Foreign Minister, Gebran Bassil, through the embassy.

“Finland will continue supporting Lebanon through its participation in the UNIFIL. We are also ready to double our contribution to the victims of the Syrian conflict and the communities hosting refugees. We realize the critical stage in Lebanon and we value your role in hosting refugees. The reopening of the Finnish Embassy in Beirut is a special step for our bilateral relations, and I am looking forward to deepening the ties between our countries,” the letter read.

Separately, Bassil received condolences over the explosions of Burj al-Barajneh from his Canadian counterpart, Stephane Dion, and Swiss Federal Consultant, Didier Burkhalter.

It is to note that the Canadian Foreign Minister revealed that his country decided to receive thousands of displaced Syrians.
